Husband had to leave for South Africa straight after the wedding

Minea Blomqvist starts new season as Blomqvist-Kakko

Finnish professional golfers Minea Blomqvist and Roope Kakko made their relationship official on the New Year’s Eve in a wedding ceremony held in Kirkkonummi, Finland in an idyllic 15th century church named after Saint Michael. The event gathered not only their families but the whole Crème de la Crème of Finnish top golfers, too. The couple has lived together for years and their first son Elmeri will be two years of age in March.

The atmosphere of the ceremony was intensified by opera singers Marjukka Tepponen and Juha Riihimäki, accompanied by Tepponen’s husband Lauri Hippeläinen. The church was filled with the tunes of Tepponen’s and Riihimäki’s duet ‘All I ask of You’. At the wedding party in Villa Störsvik in Siuntio, Riihimäki sang a song named ‘Romance’, and Tepponen raised the spirits further with Blomqvist’s favorite Finnish melody ‘Two Trees’.

The bride and the groom did not have much time for partying because on New Year’s Day the fresh husband had to leave for the opening tournament of the European Tour in South Africa. On February the 2nd Blomqvist starts her season in the Australian tournament of the Ladies European Tour, now according to her new social standing as Mrs. Blomqvist-Kakko. She will also play by the same name on the LPGA tour 2012. Before the season start she will be training in Orlando, Florida, where the couple has a training apartment.
